Fall concert

November 11, 2012
Sadie Walton - G-R student , Reinbeck Courier

Thursday, October 18, the Gladbrook Reinbeck High School Choirs took to their auditorium stage to perform their fall concert. The show opened with the song "Seasons of Love, "from Rent, performed by the G-R singers. The G-R Singers are a group of talented young singers and dancers who audition at the beginning of each school year. Throughout the year, you can see this group performing numbers a little bit different than what you would normally expect from a high school choir. The G-R Singers second song choice, "We Go Together," came from the musical Grease. This upbeat number, complete with choreography, started the evening off with an upbeat feel that got the audience excited for more.

Following the G-R singers was the Cantori Choir. Made up of the 9th and 10th grade girls, this choir offered a unique sound with its four song choices. Their first song choice was "Arise, My Love" by Laura Farnell, followed by the classic folk song "Shenandoah." After that rather slow, but beautifully done, number, the girls pumped the audience up with the gospel song, "Clap Yo' Hands." The Cantori Choir finished their debut with the well known song, "Happy Together." With the performance they put on this time around, It should be exciting to see what else this talented group of young ladies can bring to the table.

The final group of the evening was the Concert Choir. The concert choir is made up of girls 11th through 12th grades and boys 9th through 12th. They sang a total of five songs, starting with "Psallite" and "O Nata Lux." These songs, both sung in a different language, were followed by an American spiritual tune, "Oh Mary, Don't You Weep." "Hevenu Shalom Aleichem."

was the Concert Choir's fourth song, song almost entirely in Hebrew. The concert ended with the touching ballad, "What a Wonderful World." This song featured a Ttio consisting of Alyssa Christopher, Courtney Crozier, and Breanna Schlichtman.

This year marks the second year that the music teacher, Amanda Bridges, has been with G-R schools. On top of all the work she does with the high school choirs, Mrs. Bridges also teaches music at the elementary and middle school in the district. She is the successor of Mrs. Cherrie Eckhoff. Mrs. Eckhoff was the accompanist for the choirs. I believe that it is safe to say, if Thursday was any indication, Mrs. Bridges certainly has some tricks up her sleeve and we can all look forward to a new and exciting year of G-R music.
