Rebels rebound by blanking Belle Plaine

INDEPENDENCE - Just six days after its first loss of the season - and first loss in several seasons - the Class A No. 8 Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team got back to its winning ways with a Class A District 5 win over Belle Plaine, 43-0, on Friday night at Independence High School.

Quarterback Hunter Lott was 11-for-19 passing with 187 yards and three touchdowns for the Rebels (7-1, 5-1). Josh Peterson, Gage Murty and Lott all scored rushing touchdowns as well against the Plainsmen (6-2, 5-1), while Walker Thede hauled in five receptions for 112 yards and two scores.

G-R held Belle Plaine to just 146 yards of offense on the day, making Plainsmen quarterback Garrett Straight go 3-for-12 through the air with 33 yards and an interception.

Kyle Koppen was the leading tackler for the Rebels with five solo tackles and eight assists. Seth Gretillat had four solo tackles and four assists, while Matt Johannsen came down with the lone interception.
