G-R girls get first win, beat Redhawks

REINBECK - The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls' basketball team got a game-high 19 points from Taylor Gienger en route to its first win of the season, Saturday's 40-39 non-conference triumph against North Tama.

The game was tied at the end of each period until the last, when the Rebels (1-17) edged ahead before the final buzzer. Maddie Frischmeyer contributed nine points and six rebounds off the bench, and Megan Swanson had four points and a team-high nine rebounds for G-R.

North Tama (5-14) suffered its sixth-straight loss. Karly Jans tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Redhawks, and Olivia Schrier finished with 10 points and nine boards. McKenzie Wood chipped in with nine points and six rebounds, while Shelby McKinley tallied four points and six assists.

North Tama hosts GMG in Iowa Star Conference action Tuesday, while Gladbrook-Reinbeck goes to Ackley for an NICL West Division clash with AGWSR.
