News from the Black Hawk Nighthawks

November 13, 2016
Reporter Lily Heinzel , Reinbeck Courier

The Black Hawk Nighthawks 4-H Club was busy during the month of October. In addition to their regular monthly meeting, the club was involved in several other events.

During National 4-H Week, October 2nd 8th, high school members, Audrey Leyen, Lily Heinzel, Sadie Brockett, Karly Wilhau & Taylor Frischmeyer along with members of the Gladbrook 4-H Club visited the 4th grade classrooms at the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Elementary to tell the students about 4-H and answer their questions.

On Monday, October 10, members of the club were special guests at the Reinbeck Woman's Club regular meeting. The club shared some facts and trivia about 4-H and members also shared about their specific areas of involvement in 4-H. Then they answered questions from the ladies about the 4-H program, fair and project areas. Members attending the Woman's Club meeting were: Karly Wilhau, Emma Fleshner, Kinzee Hemann, Cole Fleshner, Sadie Brockett & Paul Brockett.

After the regular meeting on October 16th, members and their families had a fun outing to the Barn Stahl Family Center outside Wellsburg, Iowa. There were animals to see, a corn maze, and lots of fun activities for everyone to enjoy. The pumpkin catapult, corn shooter and giant slide were just some of the favorites. Members who had fun on our outing included: Kennedy Brant, Emma Fleshner, Karly Wilhau, Kinzee Hemann, Paul Brockett, Cole Fleshner Desi Ruttman, & Tatum Shipley.

Finally, on Saturday, October 22nd, many members of the Black Hawk Nighthawks, along with 4-H'ers from throughout the county, attended the Grundy County 4-H Halloween Costume Party and Awards Celebration at the Grundy County Fairgrounds. There were lots of great costumes and fun Halloween themed games to play. We also had several of our members receive awards for their record books as well as in project areas, such as communication, photography and citizenship. Members attending were Audrey Leyen, Sadie Brockett, Paul Brockett, Karly Wilhau, Kinzee Hemann, Lily Heinzel, Stella Heinzel & Kaylee Young.

Anyone interested in joining the Black Hawk Nighthawks 4-H Club, can talk to any of our members or leaders (Mardel Brockett & Glenda Billerbeck) or contact Andrea at the Grundy County Extension Office.
