JV Rebel football

October 23, 2016

After a big varsity win on Friday night the youthful Rebels travelled back to Hudson on Monday October 10th for a JV showdown. We were ready for a physical and athletic encounter with the Pirates. We knew we would need to show and play well to head back home with a victory.

We again started very slowly with little energy and emotion which we have done each of the last couple of weeks. The game just never got going in the first half. Hudson would run 3 or 4 plays and punt. We would then put together a drive and get to the red zone and have a penalty or would turn the ball over on downs or just plain turn it over. We had a ton of total yards at the half but had nothing to show for it as it was still 0-0. The second half we came out with some fire and emotion and go some things going. We got the run game established and it produced a Colton Clark 6 yard touchdown burst for the 6-0 lead. We forced another Hudson punt and marched in for another score on a 16 yard Jace Petersen run to go up 12-0 after 3. The defense was superb all night long and the 4th quarter was no exception. We forced another Pirate turnover and capped it off with a 21 yard halfback pass TD from Colton to Aiden Wyatt to finished off the Pirates 18-0. This pulls us back to 500 on the year at 3-3 with one game left.

Colton led the way with 94 yards on the ground, 22 yards receiving, and 21 yards passing with 2 touchdowns. Jace added a career high 53 yards rushing and 40 yards receiving with a score. Jackson Kiburis chipped in 12 yards on the ground and 56 yards through the air. Kaleb Hendricks added 9 yards rushing before leaving with an injury. Aiden caught the one ball for 21 yards and a score and Eli Thede rushed the ball twice for 9 yards to round out our offensive stats. Offensively we controlled the game with our rushing attack. We had a huge advantage in time of possession which equates to 43 running plays and 15 pass plays. This is a lot of plays for a Monday night game. We were a little sloppy the first half but got it fixed and took care of business the second half.

D'Mico Rodriguez and Aidan Walters led the way on the defensively side of the ball with 4 stops apiece. They were followed closely by Jackson, Colton, Jace, Tyler Sparks, Bronson Wrage, Kale Hasselman, and Sam Mussig with 2 each. Tyler Tscherter, Tyson Creswell, Cullen Eiffler, Eli, Aiden, and Kaleb all had one tackle apiece. We forced 4 Hudson turnovers as Colton recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Jackson and Bronson also recovered Pirate fumbles to aid our cause. I don't have the official stats for Hudson but I would bet we held them way below 100 total yards for the night. This group really needs to focus on getting better and that means working harder not only in season but also out of season. Our strength and conditioning must improve for us to remain a force in football whether it be in class A or 8 man. We must become better competitors. We must have a refuse to lose mentality which includes the fact of not wanting to come off the field for any reason. You want to be there not only for yourself but just as importantly for your teammates. This sport is bigger than one person. It takes the whole roster and this is where we need to get better. This is a good group of kids and they need to grasp this and run with it. Success is made also in the off season. Always remember that.

This week will certainly be a little different for us as we prepare to travel to Ackley for our season finale. This is different because it will be an 8 man game and we have never done that before. This should be very interesting. Come on out and see these guys for the last time in 2016 on Monday October 17th at 6 pm in Ackley vs. the Cougars of AGWSR.
