Rebels run roughshod on Thunder

GLADBROOK - The Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team averaged 12.5 yards per play in throttling Grand View Christian 63-7 on Friday in Class A District 5 play.

The second-ranked Rebels (6-0, 4-0) scored four times in the first quarter from no closer than 43 yards out. Parker Bown had a 54-yard touchdown run, Hunter Lott ran in from 66 yards away, Lott hooked up with Walker Thede for a 43-yard scoring pass, and Thede capped the opening period with a 61-yard punt return for touchdown.

Erik Knaack also returned a punt 35 yards to paydirt during G-R's 35-point second quarter. Lott connected with Matt Roeding for a 44-yard score, fullback Gage Murty had 30-yard scoring run, and backup tailback Josh Petersen had scoring runs of 15 and 14 yards as the Rebels rumbled to a 63-0 halftime advantage.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck outgained the Thunder (1-5, 1-3) 351-236. Grand View's Peyton Leever finished as the game's top rusher with 15 carries for 101 yards, but quarterback Josh Davidson was intercepted four times.

The Rebels' next two games are on the road against teams currently ranked. No. 8 Hudson hosts G-R next Friday night, and Belle Plaine entertains the Rebels in Week 8.
