JV Rebel football

October 2, 2016

After a somewhat unexpected bye week the youthful Rebels were back in action on Monday September 26 at Conrad. The BCLUW Comets were the foe for the evening. With a week of not playing on Monday, we expected the kids to be fired up and ready to hit someone other than ourselves. Pregame was very uninspired and it seemed as though we were all in a sleep walking trance. The coaching staff was far from impressed with our preparation for this contest. What would we get?

We started with the ball and marched the ball right down the field with an impressive drive. The linemen were opening huge holes and our backs benefitted from that. On the sixth play of the drive Colton Clark banged to pay dirt from 1 yard out for our first score. Eli Thede added the PAT kick and we were up 7-0 early. The defense was also up to the task as we never let the Comets get much going. Early in the second quarter Tyler Tscherter hit a streaking Aiden Wyatt on a 27 yard scoring play for our second score. Eli booted another PAT and we held a 14-0 lead. We were really dominate on the defensive side of the ball and held BCLUW and forced a punt late in the first half. The ball rolled dead on our 4 yard line with 7 seconds left in the half. We took a gamble and threw the ball from our own end zone and the Comets picked it off and returned it for a score to pull within 14-6 at the break. We needed to regroup and refocus. Momentum had switched and we needed to get it back. We kicked off the second half and showed no doubt as we stuffed the Comets for a 3 and out. We strapped in on the offensive side and drove right down the field for the equalizer score on a 10 yard gallop from Kaleb Hendricks. We had responded very well to some adversity. That is what good teams do. Our stout defense held all night long and Kaleb added another TD in the 4th quarter to get us to our 26-6 victory. This evens our record for the year at 2-2. Overall we were all pretty happy with our performance. The real positive with this group is they are showing improvement every time out. You can see this both as a team and as individuals. That is all you can ask for as a coaching staff. Keep it up.

Kaleb had a huge night on the ground with 223 yards on 25 carries and 2 TD's. Colton added 58 yards on the ground and a score. Jace Petersen, Eli, and Tyson Creswell all added to our rushing totals. Tyler Tscherter completed 2 passes for 41 yards on the night. Aiden caught the 27 yard TD score and Bronson Wrage hauled in the other pass for 14 yards. All totaled we had a season high 321 total yards which is 115 above our previous high. Kaleb, Jackson Kiburis, and Kale Hasselman led the way on the defensive side of the ball with 7 tackles each. These 3 were in the Comet backfield all night long. Aidan Walters added 5, Eli 4, Bronson, Jace, Tyler Beenken, and Sam Mussig 3, Colton, and Tyler Sparks 2, Aiden, Tyson, Tyler Tscherter, Cullen Eiffler, and D'Mico Rodriguez all chipped in a stop each for our defense. Eli also intercepted a pass. We still have a lot of things to work on for next week but we will be ready and we will continue to get better each week. We are playing with more confidence. Our effort and execution continues to improve as we head down the home stretch of this football season. Our next action will be Monday October 3 at home against a very fine Denver Cyclone team. We will then travel to Hudson on Monday October 10 to do battle with the Pirates. Our final action will be an 8 man game on Monday October 17 at Ackley against the AGWSR Cougars. All of these contests will kick off at 6 pm. Take a peak at the future Rebels.
