Cedar Valley Hospice butterfly release marks record support for event

September 18, 2016
Reinbeck Courier

Cedar Valley Hospice's 5th annual Release & Remember fundraiser drew record crowds and support for the event on Aug. 28 at the Waterloo RiverLoop Amphitheatre.

Nearly 1,500 community members gathered to celebrate loved ones, enjoy a picnic lunch, family activities and music by the Cedar Valley Big Band, as well as observe a special program culminating with the release of 1,000 live monarch butterflies with the Cedar River as the backdrop.

Over $58,000 was raised through the donations of individuals, churches and business partners that will help support the mission, programs and services offered by the not-for-profit organization.

"It was a beautiful day, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our community," said Cedar Valley Hospice Development Director Chris Olds.

The event also provides Cedar Valley Hospice the opportunity to educate the community about its services through hospice and palliative care, community-wide grief support and case management for those with HIV or AIDS. When supported by the experts at Cedar Valley Hospice, thousands of families have been able to create priceless memories while in the comfort of the only Hospice Home in the area or in their own homes.
