Scheels 3D bow shoot results

August 28, 2016
Nick Buseman - Grundy County Conservation Operation Supervisor , Reinbeck Courier

August and 13th and 14th Grundy County Conservation staff and Scheels All Sports put on another great 3D bow shoot at the Black Hawk Wildlife area just North of Morrison. We were blessed with beautiful weather and our largest number of participants. Over the two day shoot we had 220 shooters test their skills on our 40 target course. Many of the shooters raved about the set up and design of the course. This year's course featured a large variety of animals, such as Ibex and Impala from across the pond in Africa to our larger North American animals like a bison, elk and caribou; for many of us a shoot like this provides an opportunity to sling an arrow at animals we will never be fortunate enough to hunt.

New this year was scoring the shoot on a 12 point system making a perfect score 480. On each target there are three different scoring rings. Our top shooters again this year received a $50 gift card from Scheels. In the open division the top shooter was Jason Beau with a score of 426. Winner of the bow hunter division was Casey Condon with a score of 454. The men's traditional winner was Don Stangeland with a 310. The women's division winner was Jo Arnold with a score of 369. The youth top shooter was Gavin Maines with a 344 and received a $25 gift card from Scheels. Lastly, our cub top shooter was Benjamin Schaefer with a 304. We would like to congratulate all of our top shooters, and appreciate Scheels for providing the gift cards and everything else they do to make this a huge success.

Again this year we had several challenge shots where we awarded prizes. The Orange Dot challenge winner was James King who will be receiving a $50 gift card. Also our Brown Bear long range orange dot challenge was Conner Bienfang who won a $100 Scheels gift card. Lastly, we had 3 different raffle items that were drawn from turned in score cards. The winner of one of the Plano hard bow cases was Brandon Mast, the second bow case was won by Rod Radeke, and the Nikon Range Finder was won by Matt Strayer.

Once again I appreciate everyone for coming out and shooting the shoot this past weekend. Scheels provided us with targets, advertising, expertise and prizes. Their support has taken this shoot to the next level.

To all the bow hunters out there that are chomping at the bit to crawl up a tree and send an arrow into a large Iowa buck, good luck and be safe.
