Tama County 4-H

August 28, 2016
Reinbeck Courier

In March of 2016, Tama County 4-H Clubs were invited to begin collecting pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The clubs pulled, collected and returned them to the 2016 Tama County Fair in July to be weighed. Buckets were overflowing, bags

were filled and boxes were piling up. The clubs were excited for Fun Night to find out

the winner.

Here were the total of pull tabs collected by each Tama County 4-H Club:

Gladbrook Gals & Guys 1 pound

Tama/Toledo Clovers 6 pounds

Wolfcreek Whirlwinds 6 pounds

Toledo Techs 7 pounds

Gladbrook Clovers 29 pounds

Clutier Cowboys and Cowgirls 36 pounds

Buckingham Boosters 40 pounds

Garwin Roughriders 68 pounds

And the winner Young Guns with 289 pounds.

This is a total of 482 pounds of pull tabs.

The Ronald McDonald house collects these tabs and sells them for scrap metal. They receive approximately 33 cents for a pound of pull tabs. A pound consists of

approximately 1,400 pull tabs. This money helps with operational expenses at the

home.

The Young Guns Club recently took all the collected pull tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. They were also able to have a tour of the facilities. This club plans to continue collecting pull tabs this next year. If anyone has them, they are welcome to give them to any of the club members or bring them to the Tama County Extension Office.

Tama County 4-H Clubs did an amazing job of collecting pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
