Grundy Center cook ‘steaks’ his claim at the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA The best beef cooks from across the state gathered together in Des Moines for the Neubrand's World's Greatest Steak Contest, judged Friday, at the 2016 Iowa State Fair.

Phil Dicks of Grundy Center won first place and a $500 cash award.

Cheryl Rogers of Ankeny claimed second place and $300. Daryl Witt of Carlisle earned third place and $200.

Entries were judged on taste, presentation and best value.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 203 divisions, 809 classes and over 9,925 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
