New digital sign

June 28, 2016
Reinbeck Courier

The Reinbeck Community Development Board has joined forces with the G-R School Board, the G-R Booster Club, the Reinbeck City Council and the Reinbeck Park Board in raising fund to provide a new digital sign at the corner of N. Broad St. and Hwy 175. Football coach John Olson, chair of the project, challenged us to raise $15,000 towards the project through the businesses and citizens of Reinbeck. Funds we raise will be pooled with funds contributed by these other organizations aiming at a total price tag of approximately $40,000 including appropriate ground effects. The new sign, to be constructed during June, will represent a considerable improvement over the existing sign which has very little functionality compared to the proposed lighted, digital sign. The size will make it considerably more visible as well. We need to raise the remaining funds soon so the sign can be paid for in July. So far around $2200 has been raised.

Your local Development Board recently went through a strategic planning process facilitated by a professional from UNI. One of the noted strategic goals coming from that meeting was to find ways to attract new residents for Reinbeck. Besides providing ample housing stock, the main option we seem to have are boosting our good school system, our terrific community attributes, and further beautifying the community with features like this sign. At the Eastern Iowa Home Show, these goals were further validated in discussion with people visiting the Reinbeck booth. The proposed sign would memorialize the many recent extra-curricular feats of our students and school and provide a central messaging board for the school and community. The proposed sign pedestal listing athletic championships and achievements, the programmable digital portion of the sign above the pedestal, and the backlit billboard above that welcomes people to Reinbeck - home of the Rebels. You may be familiar with a similar sign in Gladbrook.

Please show your community and school pride by answering this call with a generous, tax-deductible contribution to the LSB Foundation/Reinbeck sign project some time this month. You may drop your donation off at LSB in Reinbeck or mail it to the LSB Foundation at 508 Main St., Reinbeck.
