Fired up about fishing

The sun has yet to hit the horizon as your boat touches the water. The early morning mist is rising off the water giving you an eerie feeling as you look across the lake. Your boat cuts through the mist like a cloud as you approach the nearest bank. There is a slight splash as your favorite top water bait hits just inches from the shore, you watch in great anticipation as your lure bubbles and gurgles its way back to the boat when WHAM a five pound largemouth takes it under like a vacuum cleaner and runs with it. The battle is a hard fought one, just like you like it, until finally you land him. With great self satisfaction and respect for the fish you release him and go after the next one.

It is definitely fishing season and for those of you who love the sport as I do, it really gets your heart racing. I have been fishing all my life and have had good luck and very bad luck, but even a bad day fishing is better than a good day working. Fishing is a great chance to get out and relax by yourself or it can be a great chance to get your kids and family out on the water enjoying a good day of fishing. Growing up I never had a place close to home that I could fish. It seemed like every time we wanted to go fishing we had to travel 30 to 40 minutes to fish. Having such a great lake to fish that is close to home has been awesome. The Grundy County Lake is unique in the fact that you have easy access fishing to the majority of the lake. Many lakes require a boat to get to the best fishing spots. This is not the case here, some of the best fishing opportunities are from the bank.

One great way to experience the fishing is to come to our annual fishing derby sponsored by Peoples Savings Bank in Dike. We are holding the derby on June 4th this year which is a little bit earlier than usual but it works out great because that is also free fishing weekend! The derby will start at 6:00 am and final weigh in will take place at 12:00 pm. This is a catch and release tournament so your fish must be turned in alive, so bring your buckets. Entry fee is for all participants and that will also put you in the drawing for a door prize. Additional prizes will be given for biggest Bass, pan fish and Catfish. The derby will be held at the Grundy County Lake which is located just south of Dike on T55. Hope to see all you fishing fanatics on June 4th.
