Heritage Museum spring event

April 10, 2016
Reinbeck Courier

The Grundy County Heritage Museum's annual spring event is Sunday, April 10th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Special guest, Tom Milligan will be performing, "American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace," at 2 p.m. There are two special Grundy County connections with Henry A. Wallace. Not only is there a Pioneer Hi-Bred seed corn processing plant in Reinbeck for which Wallace was the founder, but Wallace initiated the "cornhusking contests."

These contests grew to a sport that included county, state and national competitions in the 1920s, 30s and into the 40s. The National Cornhusking Contest of 1931 took place in Grundy Center and drew a crowd of around 60,000 spectators!

After the presentation, make sure you take time to view the museum's videos and artifacts related to the rich heritage of cornhusking contests and participants with Grundy County ties.

Join us for fellowship, refreshments and treats as the museum kicks off another season.

The Grundy County heritage Museum is jointly operated by the Historical Collections of Grundy County and the Grundy County Conservation Board.
