DES MOINES - Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior guard Joe Smoldt has been named to the Iowa Newspaper Association Class 1A boys basketball all-state first team for the second consecutive year.

This honor comes on the heels of Smoldt being named the Class 1A Boys State All-Tournament team captain for the second year in a row, as the Rebels finished fourth at this year's state tournament after winning the title a season ago.

Smoldt averaged 25.3 points a game this season, and led G-R with 134 assists. He scored a career-high 35 points against Jesup in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament, and followed that up with a 33-point performance against South O'Brien in the semifinals, and finished the three-game tournament with a total of 87 points.

Colo-NESCO's Christian Reischauer was named to the Class 1A second team. The senior Royal averaged 16.7 points a game, 6.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He was named to the INA third team in 2015. He was named to the Iowa Star Conference first team for the second year in a row, including being a unanimous selection this season.
