Ranked Rebels, Royals move in

REINBECK - The defending Class 1A state champions took a strong first step in the postseason, as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys' basketball team put away BCLUW 85-32 in the District 9 quarterfinals here Thursday.

The Rebels (20-2) claimed their 11th consecutive win after jumping out to a 28-5 lead through the first quarter. It was 48-16 at the half, and 74-26 going into the fourth frame.

Joe Smoldt led Gladbrook-Reinbeck with 26 oints, seven assists, five steals and two blocked shots. Tyler Eiffler finished with 13 points, Matt Roeding had 10 more, while Tyler Pierce and Colton Dinsdale added eight points each. Caden Kickbush chipped in seven points, while Pierce led the team with five rebounds.

No statistics were available as of press time for BCLUW (5-17).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts the district semifinals on Tuesday. Grundy Center meets Don Bosco at 6:30 p.m. and the Rebels entertain Dunkerton in the late game.
