G-R secures perfect NICL West crown

LE GRAND - The No. 7 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys' basketball team had its hands full with East Marshall on the road Tuesday night, but came away with its 19th win of the season, maintaining a perfect conference record, with a 59-41 win.

Joe Smoldt put up 27 points to lead all scorers as the Rebels (19-2, 12-0 NICL West) staved off the battling Mustangs (8-12, 4-7 NICL West). Josh Cooley had 12 points with two made 3-pointers, and Colton Dinsdale put up 10 points himself in the win.

Cooley earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Pierce also had 10 rebounds with six points.

The Mustangs' were led by Zane Johnson who had 11 points on five made baskets and nine rebounds. Logan Nicholson had 10 points with seven rebounds and Dru Boliver had nine points with six rebounds.

With the win Tuesday night, the Rebels secured their second-straight, undefeated conference title. The Rebels were 14-0 last season and won their third consecutive conference title. They shared the NICL West title with West Marshall three years ago, going 13-1 in conference play.
