Hospital foundation auction sets record

February 14, 2016
Reinbeck Courier

GRUNDY CENTER, IA More than 170 people gathered Saturday evening to support the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation at its ninth annual Gala & Auction. A new fundraising record was achieved at the event, with more than $45,000 raised to benefit the hospital's upcoming project to expand the Specialty Clinics and modernize the second floor. 'Snowflakes and Diamonds' was the theme for the evening, and guests from more than ten local communities were entertained by weatherman Ed Wilson, a Grundy Center native who is the chief meteorologist for WHO Channel 13 in Des Moines. Wilson provided a sunny forecast for the hospital as he and auctioneer Mark Jungling presided over a Dessert Auction, Live Auction, and Fund a Need portions of the evening.

The Gala's elegant theme was carried out by Gala committee volunteers Kelly Dinsdale, Kate Durbin, Jan Ehrig, Susan Jaspers, Rhonda Samo, and Cindy Simms. Area businesses and individuals donated a wide variety of auction items to the event and guests enjoyed bidding on items like a river-side dinner party, Hawkeye tailgate package, landscaping work, an Okoboji weekend, Mississippi River cruise, a week-long resort vacation, children's play vehicles, and an Orlando vacation. Local pianist Marcia Heronimus provided music during social hour and dinner. The event also featured a raffle, and the grand prize was won by Rhonda Samo of Grundy Center, who received a diamond worth more than $2,000, courtesy of Invision Architecture and Facets Jewelry by Susong.

"Local health care receives a huge boost from this event each year," remarked Erin Schildroth, Foundation Events Coordinator. "The success of the Gala & Auction is due to the generosity of many people including the local businesses and individuals who donate items for the Silent, Dessert, and Live Auctions, and the area businesses who help underwrite the expense of hospital fundraising events by donating to be Foundation Event Sponsors. Our guests were part of a very special evening as they demonstrated record support for the hospital."

Hospital CEO Jennifer Havens spoke to Gala guests about the important role that community support plays in the hospital's success, and said the hospital is continually evaluating new health care services and specialty providers to be able to provide area residents with convenient access to high quality care.
