Smoldt sparks Rebels past Spartans

GRUNDY CENTER - Joe Smoldt scored a season-high 33 points and made it a double-double with 10 assists as Class 1A No. 1 Gladbrook-Reinbeck roughed up rival Grundy Center 71-41 here in Tuesday's NICL West Division boys basketball showdown.

It was the first conference loss for the host Spartans (4-2, 3-1), whose statistics were not available as of press time.

Smoldt made four of the Rebels' seven 3-pointers. Tyler Pierce posted his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Caden Kickbush contributed six points off the bench for Gladbrook-Reinbeck (4-0, 3-0).
