News from the Black Hawk Night Hawks

December 13, 2015
Audrey Leyen , Reinbeck Courier

The Black Hawk Night Hawks recently had their meeting on November 7th at Hansen's Dairy Farm. While there, we had a tour of the farm and then potluck/meeting afterward. Our roll call was to say our favorite dairy product. We decided that our month of December was too hectic for our older 4-Hers and now won't have a meeting that month. An email will be sent out to Clover Kids to find out if they will be having a meeting.

Next, we talked about selling our Younkers Days booklets. Also, we had a lot of compliments on our projects that were on display in the library. Earlier in October, we had a Halloween Party/Awards Celebration for our 4-H members. Our members did very well and the club got a lot of awards. Another exciting award was Emma Fleshner, our member, who got a Volunteer of the Year Award for the Pony Express. Now, our Christmas tree is up at the bank, and was there for Miracle on Main. As a reminder FSQA training is on the following dates; Mon, March 28th 6:30-8:00 p.m, Sat, April 9th 9:00-10:00 am, Mon, April 11th 6:30-8:00pm, or Sat. April 23rd 9:00-10:30 am.

After our meeting, Audrey Leyen did a presentation on the six main dairy breeds. These breeds including the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Jersey , Holstein, and Milking Shorthorn. The Holstein being the breed that Hansen's Dairy uses for their milk and dairy products.
