Rebels rake in own tourney championship

REINBECK - The Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team hosted a tournament Saturday that featured four area local teams.

G-R won all four of its matches on the day to win the tournament. The Rebels (9-7) defeated GMG 20-25, 25-18, 15-8; BCLUW 25-21, 25-18; AGWSR 26-24, 25-16; and North Butler 25-18, 25-18.

Hayley Weber led the Rebels with 40 kills in the tournament. Weber also added 30 digs. Leah Holman had 71 of G-R's 76 assists on the day. Sydney Brown collected 50 digs. Holman served 46-for-48 with three aces. Marissa Berendes went 36-for-38 with six aces.

BCLUW took second in the tournament, going 3-1. The Comets lost to G-R, but beat North Butler 25-16, 25-20; GMG 25-19, 25-14; and AGWSR 26-24, 25-20.

The Comets (11-3) were led by Olivia Callaway's 29 kills and 19 digs. Hannah Sams had 21 kills and five blocks, and Jordyn Beeghly added 17 kills and a team-best eight blocks. Maddy Reyes racked up 47 assists, while Mikaela Simpson and Sam Ubben both had five service aces.

AGWSR went 2-2 in the tournament. The Cougars defeated North Butler 25-17, 25-19; and GMG 25-21, 25-11. AGWSR lost to BCLUW and G-R.

Maddie Brandt had 22 kills for the Cougars (5-6). Alana Groninga contributed 16 kills. Mandy Willems had 38 assists. Abbie Young had 25 assists and 35 digs. Mel Morones had 39 digs. Groninga had nine aces, including seven against GMG. Young had seven aces and Reagan Rathe had six.

North Butler (5-13) went 1-3, defeating GMG 25-17, 25-20. The Wolverines (7-8) went 0-4. Avery Smith had 15 kills for GMG, Josie Claaseen had 14 and Chandler Kendall had 12. Katie Airey had 47 assists. Blaire Sonderleiter and Taija Williams had six blocks each, and Claassen had five. Sonderleiter served 44-for-46 with four aces to go along with 35 digs. Kendall and Smith each had 30 digs.
