Dear Editor,

In last week's newspaper, Linda Reardon-Lowry made reference to Superintendent Mathis allocating 40% of his time (16 hours per week) to the GR district. Nothing could be further from the truth. In my 36 years of teaching, I have worked for a total of 9 superintendents in two different school districts. Being a superintendent is a salaried position, not an hourly position. Superintendents work a minimum of 55-60 hours each week. That is how much time it takes to get their job done. We all need to be thankful that there are those individuals (such as Jay Mathis) that have a great passion for education and want to be a school superintendent.

I would encourage everyone to tell Superintendent Mathis "thank you" for his time and efforts the next time you see him.
