Dear Editor,

We are indeed G-R.

I think there are a great many reasons why we should vote to support the Gladbrook Reinbeck School District. We had a 97% graduation rate in 2014 (2015 is not yet available to me). We have 88% of our students go on to higher educationeither 2 or 4 year degrees. Three of the last five years we have exceeded the state average in ACT scores. The Western Outreach center, in conjunction with Hawkeye Community College, allows us to offer 30 hours of college courses each year. (What a financial savings for parents and students when thinking ahead to college costs)! In addition, we are offering CNA courses for students wishing to pursue careers in health and/or nursing. Within G-R, each student in grades 5 12 is provided with a laptop computer. In the K-4 classrooms they have computer carts and IPAD's for each grade level. We have our Talented and Gifted program, EAGLE, that identifies about 10% of our students for the program. However, G-R offers more than any other school in the area, in that ALL the elementary students receive EAGLE activities and lessons several times a month. I often heard that we were ranked 37th in the state in the Niche rankings. I really did not know anything about the ranking, so I investigated. You can too at k12niche.com. I learned that G-R is ranked 37th out of 280 public secondary schools in Iowa. I searched for the rankings of the surrounding schools: Dike-New Hartford 35th; Gladbrook-Reinbeck 37th; Hudson 67th; North Tama 98th; BCLUW 164th; Grundy Center 190th; and GMG (no ranking available). Our students do well in academics, speech, music, drama, sports (an amazing year) and a number of other extracurricular activities that are offered here at G-R. We are doing things right by our students at G-R!!!! As a district, we are doing well at gathering money for scholarships each year. Last year a total of $201,000 was given out in scholarship money to the 2015 graduates!!!

To me, these facts about G-R help write a very successful story of G-R, a story of preparing our youth to continue to be successful in the future. In order to continue this level of educational success, we must VOTE on Tuesday, September 8th (the day after Labor Day), to support the G-R School District. Vote for Anne (Bailey) Boyer, Eric Sieh, Lisa Swanson, and Matt Wyatt..they support G-R.

Please exercise your right to vote.and encourage your friends to vote also. We are G-R!
