Dear Editor:

To 4-B Kids:

I wasn't sure how to reach all of you - hopefully some of you will see the Northern Sun and the Courier and will let others know to read about This-and-That.

I hope you're having a wonderful summer think about you all the time. Summer has been crazy-busy for me but very productive. My mind is reeling with all I still want to do. While I've unpacked more than 80 boxes, I still have unpacking and organizing to do in my new classroom. My organizing slowed when I began to find books and binders containing ideas that were fun a long time ago - so, from time to time, I've taken a break from my work by planning new things for this school year.

I also have ideas from the two UNI classes I've taken this summer. Science-on-the-Deck will have new activities!

I am always very proud of you for caring about others. Here are updates from a few of our Bucket Projects -

Maggie, though she was very ill this summer, is back in her home and enjoying visits from family and friends. Technology has helped her to communicate. Do you remember she likes Crazy Knee Socks?

Halle, the little girl from Waverly, just had a check-up in Iowa City and is doing well.

Chris Norton, the Luther football player, reached his goal in May - as he walked across the stage at graduation. He truly Unlocked His Possibilities! His SCI Can Foundation is making it possible for others with spinal cord injuries to reach their goals.

After traveling 34 hours, Cadi arrived in Mozambique. Since their arrival, she and others have visited an orphanage, gone to an international women's small group, visited an international school, and have helped in the child sponsorship office. Cadi is involved in health training with the women. She reports that young families are very eager to make life better for their children. The desk you bought for their school will help with that goal. She was excited to share your notes with the children and will look forward to visiting us in the fall.

Some of you checked out books for the summer - hope you've enjoyed them. I'll be in touch soon to get together for Book Club in August.

Continue to enjoy summer!
