GR girls track

May 31, 2015
coach Carla Leyen , Reinbeck Courier

The season for Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls high school track ended with districts in Grundy Center May 14th with a rainy night. The track team had a total of 13 track meets and we were able compete in each meet without missing an event as entered. We competed several nights in wind and rain. We finished the season with our 12 athletes able to compete and we ran for the Rebels with an 8th place team finish in our 1A District. In our 8th place finish, we has individual bests to place and medal for the GR Rebels. Katy Thompson, Sophomore, placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 5th in the 200 meter dash. Audrey Leyen, freshman, placed 4th in open 400 with her first attempt in that event all season. Madison White, junior, placed 7th in discus with her best throw of the season. Hailey Stickfort, sophomore, placed 8th in 100 meter hurdles. The relay that placed highest was the 4 x 100 meter relay at 5th place. The girls in that relay were Kendra Vavroch, Megan Swanson, Audrey Leyen and Katy Thompson. A highlight of our season was having a parents night at the May 5th Home Girls Soccer match. We were able to honor and introduce our seniors with their parents even though we do not have a home track meet. Kendra Vavroch and Shalyn Johnston were our seniors this season and acted as our captains. Kendra was, also, awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the GR Girls high school track team. Another highlight for this season was having a very dedicated and helpful manager for her first year. Sadie Brockett, freshman, supported the team every step of the way.
