WAVERLY - Closing its day with a comeback win in a penalty kick shootout, the Class 1A No. 9 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer team finished 3-0 Saturday to capture Bracket B of the Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament.

The Rebels trailed Iowa Falls-Alden 1-0 through much of the second half before Cam Kickbush netted the equalizer near the 70th minute to send it to penalty kicks. G-R fell behind 1-0 through the first round of the shootout but connected on its next three attempts. The Rebels sealed the 2-1 win after the Cadets' last attempt bounced off the post. Josh Cooley made eight saves in the win.

Kickbush, Erik Knaack and Walker Thede each found the back of the net as the Rebels (9-2) started the tourney with a 3-0 shutout of Western Dubuque. Kickbush and Bennett Petersen each had an assist, while Cooley made five saves.

Knaack scored both goals in G-R's 2-1 semifinal win over Benton Community. Kickbush set up the last score in the final minute with a header pass to Knaack, and Cooley made seven stops in goal.

Riding a five-game win streak, the Rebels head to Hudson today at 5 p.m. and travel to Waterloo Columbus Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. match.
