Wellness Series to be held at Kling Memorial Library May 7, 14 & 21, 2015!

Spring has sprung and it's the season to think about living a healthier lifestyle!

Join ISU Extension & Outreach Specialist Jill Weber for a three part series to better your health. This free series will be held Thursday evenings, May 7, 14 and 21st from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Kling Memorial Library.

Session 1 on May 7th will focus on "My Plate" recommendations for healthy eating and "Food Safety". Making food choices for a healthy lifestyle can be as simple as using 10 tips to balance your calories, to choose foods to eat more often, and to cut back on foods to eat less often. Food Safety will discuss the healthy and safe ways to preserve food this summer!

Session 2 on May 14th will focus on "Healthy Meals in a Hurry". This session will talk about how to easily prepare larger quantities of food to freeze and save to have healthy meals the entire week. Jill will also talk about ways to use fresh and healthy food in meals when you are in a time crunch! "The messages in "Healthy Meals in a Hurry" are exactly what we wanted to accomplish in the class," said Pat Fisher, Hy-Vee dietician and an organizer of the training. "Our committee wanted to offer classes that would encourage healthy eating by reviving family meals. The bulk quantity recipes, nutrition analysis and food safety information in "Healthy Meals in a Hurry" will serve as the basis for the classes we are offering around the county. This is a beautifully done publication; very easy to read and use."

Session 3 on May 21st will focus on "Spend Smart Eat Smart". Learn ways to save money while eating healthier. Jill will talk about ways to save money at the grocery store while avoiding the unhealthier food. Making nutritious food choices can be a challenge whether you're facing a hungry family or just your own growling stomach. A publication from Iowa State University Extension is designed to help consumers of all ages blend time-saving convenience with nutritious, dollar-stretching food choices.

All sessions are free and you can attend any of the sessions that interest you, no obligation to attend all three.

Pre-registration is not required but highly recommended.
