G-R girls high school track

April 26, 2015
Coach Carla Leyen , Reinbeck Courier

Track season for the high school girls at Gladbrook-Reinbeck started March 2nd with first practices inside with weather still cold and raining. Our first track meet was at Wartburg on March 26th as an indoor meet. Since then, we have had outdoor track meets at Conrad, Union in LaPorte City, South Tama, Hudson, and Dike. We have a team of 12 dedicated athletes and 2 managers. We have a mix of veteran competitors and those that are rookies. Coaching the team this year are Carla Leyen and Lauren Bengen. Plus, we have a volunteer coach, Andy Knapp, who helps tremendously with the discus and shot put athletes. The team has had a chance to create their own t-shirt design for a variety of apparel, to work on team-building skills, and to attend the movie, "McFarland, USA" together. On April 14th, the GR Girls Soccer team attended our meet in Hudson to "cheer us on".

On the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Girls High School Track team, we have 2 Seniors (Kendra Vavroch and Shalyn Johnston), 1 Junior (Madi White), 5 Sophomores (Katy Thompson, Hailey Stickfort, Kathryn Wild, Alyssa Starnes, and Alex Thede), and 4 freshman (Audrey Leyen, Megan Swanson, Kaylah McDonough, and Sonnie Wilson). The two Seniors are our Captains and provide guidance for the underclassmen. At each track meet, we strive to improve our running times and/or field events. We are working hard to prepare for our Conference meet at Conrad on May 7th! Come watch our athletes with that meet starting at 4:00 pm.
