GCMH celebrates volunteer appreciation week

April 19, 2015
Reinbeck Courier

GRUNDY CENTER Grundy County Memorial Hospital is happy to spend this week celebrating its volunteers. National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing, and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. More than 100 community members serve the hospital in a volunteer role. Whether on the Board of Commissioners or Foundation Board, serving at the Welcome Desk or assisting staff in Therapy, organizing fundraising events or helping with a long term care activity, each GCMH Volunteer adds immeasurable value to the organization by giving of their time and varied talents. Volunteers come from all across the hospital's four-county service area; volunteers show representation from Conrad, Dike, Eldora, Gladbrook, Grundy Center, Holland, Lincoln, Parkersburg, Reinbeck, Steamboat Rock, and Wellsburg.

"Volunteers gave more than 9,000 hours to the hospital in 2014," states GCMH Volunteer Coordinator Erin Schildroth. "These hours help demonstrate the amount of time volunteers put into assisting our Therapy Department, planning the Foundation's Fall Fling, helping customers in the Caf, and so much more. Volunteer Appreciation Week is a wonderful time for all of us to recognize and thank the volunteers who give so graciously of their time to benefit our communities. It's also a time to consider how each of us may consider serving our communities in new ways this year."

If you would like to join the hospital as a volunteer, you can speak with Volunteer Coordinator Erin Schildroth at (319) 824-4147 or erin.schildroth@unitypoint.org.
