‘An Elegant Gatsby Evening’ Raises funds for hospital

February 23, 2015
Reinbeck Courier

GRUNDY CENTER, IA The 8th annual Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation Gala & Auction is one for the record books! Held February 7th at the Grundy Community Center, the Gala attracted more than 175 guests who dined, socialized, bid on silent and live auction items, and had a wonderful evening supporting the hospital's work in the local communities it serves. The event raised over $39,000 for the new Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner at the hospital. Craig Buskohl, GCMH Radiology Manager, spoke to attendees about the improved patient care and diagnostics that will be possible with the new, 64-slice CT scanner at GCMH. Guests showed their support of the project by donating $13,700 during a portion of the evening focused on raising extra funds for a specialized injector system for the CT scanner. GCMH will be the first hospital in the UnityPoint Health system to make use of this specialized technology.

The 'Elegant Gatsby Evening' theme was carried out by Gala committee volunteers Kelly Dinsdale, Kate Durbin, Jan Ehrig, Susan Jaspers, Rhonda Samo, Cindy Simms, and Joyce Schmidt. Area businesses and individuals donated a record number of auction items to the event and guests enjoyed bidding on many new items like a river-side dinner party, prints by Iowa photographers, and an ISU basketball signed by men's head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg. Guests enjoyed musical and dance entertainment from local professional musicians while emcee Gary Kroeger kept the evening exciting.

"The success of the Gala is a wonderful demonstration of the support that community members provide to the hospital," said Erin Schildroth, Foundation Events Coordinator. "Local businesses donate items for the Silent and Live Auction, local chefs, GCMH Specialty Clinic physicians, and UnityPoint Clinic physicians donate desserts for the Dessert Auction, our volunteer committee creates a wonderful atmosphere for our guests to enjoy, and our guests are genuine in their support of the hospital."
