Reinbeck Courier

Dear Editor,

This letter is to the citizens of Reinbeck and is a request.

I am asking for those in our community that have personal differences with our city council members and/or mayor to set them aside and look at the broader picture of the city council as a whole.

Our city council has taken on a nearly impossible task, that of putting our town back on solid financial and operational ground. For months Reinbeck teetered on the brink of financial and functional collapse. Our city council, the same council some of you have sought to demean, worked diligently and tirelessly to address the issues causing our problems and find solutions to them. They went well beyond what was expected of them as council members and stood together in their efforts to make a brighter future for our town.

I could list the innumerable accomplishments our city council has made during the past year but it suffices to simply say it is time to congratulate them instead of bad mouthing them. Have they made mistakes? Of course they have. Any person or group that does anything other than stand idly by will make mistakes. The key is that they recognize the mistakes, learn from them and move forward.

Again I ask that our city council be considered as a whole and those with personal issues set them aside.

They need our support as much as we need theirs.
