GRUNDY CENTER - If your new year's resolution is to offer your family healthier and more nutritious meals, three upcoming classes will help you discover the ease of cooking and the health benefits that accompany fresh, home cooked food.

The Grundy Center Wellness Committee, comprised of individuals from the school district, hospital, health department, YMCA, and local business, is offering three topics, beginning Monday, January 26th with 'Healthful Swaps for your Shopping and Cooking'. Dietitian Crystal Petersen RD, LD will teach this course that focuses on stocking your kitchen with nutritional foods to make it easier to prepare healthy food. She'll have ideas for substituting nutritious ingredients for standard higher fat or sugar ingredients. Class participants can sample recipes and learn quick ways to cook with more nutritional value. The course will take place in the East J Caf at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Monday, January 26th at 5:30 p.m.

On Monday, February 2, also at 5:30 p.m., Easy Freezer Meal Preparation will be offered by high school family and consumer science instructor Joan Schuller in her classroom at Grundy Center High School. Time constraints can cause families to use frozen, prepared meals that often are high in salt and fat content. This class offers instruction and the time to prepare up to five freezer-ready meals that can be taken home to pull out of the freezer for busy days. The cost for the course depends on the amount of meals you make to take with you, and you will choose which meals you want to make when you register for the class.

The final class in the series focuses on adding the right foods to your diet. 'Eat for Maximum Mojo' will be taught by certified health and wellness coach Mindy Whitehill. The class will provide quick food preparation tips, offer sampling of tasty meals, and new recipes. The class is on Monday, March 2, 5:30 p.m., in the Grundy Center High School Family & Consumer Science classroom.

Advance registration is necessary so food can be planned for the class participants. Register by noon on Friday before each Monday class by phoning 319-824-4152 or emailing GCMH_Info@unitypoint.org.
