As 2014 comes to a close, the American Red Cross is asking Black Hawk County residents to give something that means something. Give hope to patients in need by donating blood December 30 at the tenth annual Cedar Falls Holiday Blood Drive at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

December 30 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, 8201 Dakota Street, Cedar Falls, IA

"Only when volunteer donors make time to help save a life can we be sure that blood is available for those in need," said Greg Novinska, the CEO of the American Red Cross Badger-Hawkeye Blood Services Region. "Giving blood to help others is a wonderful way to give something meaningful. Please close out this holiday season by making a blood donation."

A blood donation is a gift that doesn't cost a thing but can provide hope to hospital patients in need. Every day, the Red Cross must collect about 15,000 pints of blood to meet the needs of patients at 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers in Iowa and across the country. The need for blood remains constant during the holidays, however, busier schedules, travel and other seasonal activities often leave little time to donate. All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate blood supply heading into 2015, and those with types O negative, A negative and B negative are especially encouraged to give.

All presenting donors will receive a Red Cross long sleeve T-shirt, while supplies last. There will also be a variety of refreshments from local vendors and each presenting donor will have a chance to win gift certificates. Make your appointment today.
