LaVon Joy Kees

LaVon Joy Keese, 91, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Calvin Community. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, at Windsor Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. Cremation followed services and private placement of the urn will be at Resthaven Mausoleum.

LaVon was born June 15, 1923, in Reinbeck, Iowa, daughter of Edward Claus and Emma Carolina Boege. She earned her two years normal training certificate at the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and taught at the Albion School. LaVon married Joe Keese on June 13, 1948 and they made their home in Des Moines. She later worked as a Teacher's Associate for Des Moines Public Schools. LaVon loved to sew, cook and spend time with friends and family.

LaVon is survived by her sons, Scott (Jan) Keese of Huxley, and Mark Keese of Des Moines; her grandchildren, Megan (Eric) Wetzel and Allison (Clint) Prohaska, both of Waukee, and Jake (Jenny) Keese and Eric (Amanda) Keese, both of Ankeny; and seven great-grandchildren, Zaida Wetzel, Ryder Wetzel, Marnix Wetzel, Afton Prohaska, Brynn Prohaska, Sutton Prohaska and Falyn Prohaska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Harold Boege, LaRue Boege and Nadine Stirler.
