David Lee Hilt

David "Dave" Lee Hilt, 74, of Ankeny, passed away October 10, 2014 in the apple orchard he loved at the home of his daughter in Maxwell, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N Ankeny Blvd. in Ankeny, on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation was held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 5:00 8:00 p.m. also at Memorial Services of Iowa.

Dave was born on March 14, 1940 in Lafayette, Ind.; the son of Marvin and Margaret Riley Hilt. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette in 1958 and furthered his education at Purdue University, where he graduated in 1963 with a degree in business management. Dave was a member of ROTC at Purdue and was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. Dave married Judith Lawson on May 31, 1961 in Lafayette. He graduated from flight school and was a pilot with the Air Force for over six years, attaining the rank of Captain.

Dave earned a Master's Degree in Health Care Administration of St. Francis College in Jolliet, Ill. He was a self-employed contractor and owned the Cone N Bun restaurant in Reinbeck, Iowa. Dave worked as an administrator in brain injury rehabilitation in Reinbeck and Altoona, Iowa. He and Judy moved to Ankeny in 1991 where he worked with health care computer software until his retirement in 1994.

Dave enjoyed gardening and was a master gardener. He was a certified beekeeper and planted an apple orchard in Maxwell that was his pride. Dave was a member of the Elks in Des Moines and the Reinbeck United Methodist Church.

Dave is survived by his wife Judy of Ankeny; daughter Michelle (Kenneth) Jans of Maxwell and their children Chris (Danielle) Jans of Reinbeck, Shelly (Frank) Richardson, Megan (Jarrett) Myers and David (Meridith) Jans, all of Maxwell; daughter Janet (Gregg) Trepp of Reinbeck and their children Rex Trepp of Reinbeck, Luke Trepp of New Hartford and Bradon Trepp of Reinbeck; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris (Tom) Myers, Janice (Bill) Gilman and Barbara Carter, all of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
