AUGUST 19, 2004

Dike Lion's Club are sponsoring a USA Tractor Ride on Saturday, August 21. Kevin Williams will be portraying Elke Henricks who was a champion hand corn picking contestant at the National Corn Picking contest in 1931.

Covenant Clinic-Reinbeck will hold an open house on August 26 at 501 Main Street.

Mr. & Mrs. Scott Madison are parents of a son born August 6.

Emma Dudden, 92, Grundy Center, died August 11 at Grundy Co. Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care Unit.


August 18, 1994

Grundy Co. Fair receives a $2,000 grant from the state. The money was funded by lottery profits.

Janet Schildroth will be having an open house at the Reinbeck Library to share her experiences in the Ukraine and Russia on August 24.

Emma Stewart, 83, formerly of rural Hudson, died August 9.

Diedrich "Dick" Freese, 88, Steamboat Rock, died August 10.

Melvin Flater, 75, Holland, died August 10.

Theresa Kramer, 88, Rockford, died August 15.

Mr. & Mrs. Chuck Slessor celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Siems, Hudson, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on August 29.

Katherine Kline, LaPorte City & Phillip Bowen, Reinbeck, will be married on Sept. 24.

Brenda Scherbring & Lars Ahrenholz will be married Sept. 10.

Wanda Kramer & David Delfs were married July 16.


AUGUST 23, 1984

Mr. & Mrs. Merlyn Boege, Waterloo, are parents of a daughter born August 17.

Anne Schrier and William Curley, Jr. were married July 21.

Sweet Corn Day set for Saturday August 25.

Lonn Koch, son of Ron & Ruby Koch, wins shooting title at the 8th Grand American Trapshoot at Vandalia, Ohio.

Kevin Brumbaugh will report to Coe College to start football practice.


AUGUST 29, 1974

Mel Tandy scored a hole in one on hole #6 at Oakleaf Country Club.

Mrs. Ed Claussen, 65, died August 21.

Mr. & Mrs. Roger Miller are parents of a daughter born August 15.

Lorraine Knaack & Gaylan Anderson had an accident at the corner of Main & Broad St.

Thieves entered the Reinbeck Cleaners and stole cash and checks amounting to $176.65


AUGUST, 1964

Through the efforts of the Reinbeck Jaycees the new bleachers at Reinbeck Memorial Athletic Field have been completed.

Mr. & Mrs. Paul Weiss sold their home at 117 Randall St. to Mr. & Mrs. Herman Manlick.

Raymond Harms, 44, operator of the Steamboat Rock cheese factory, died suddenly on August 21.

Dorothy Ramsey is the new librarian at the Reinbeck Library.

The new Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Co. bulk storage building with a 220,000 bushel capacity is nearing completion.

Larry Sager seriously injured 3 fingers on his right hand while working on the Homer Miller farm.

Mr. & Mrs. Bill Brubaker, Nevada, are parents of a daughter born August 21.

Mr. & Mrs. Harold Anderson are parents of a son born August 4.


AUGUST, 1954

Meredith Palmer, bookkeeper at Reinbeck Motor Co., received an award, a gold pin from Ford Motor Co., for having kept a perfect set of books with never an error in the past 3 years.

The Ralph Marken home in Morrison was struck by lightning during a recent storm.

Dr. R.C. Berner, Reinbeck's new dentist, from Rockwell City, will have his office in the Forest Raney building.

Donn Lorenzen, Reinbeck, will play football at Iowa State College.

Mr. & Mrs. Russell Kray, Vinton, are parents of a son born August 23.

Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Utterback are parents of a son born August 24.


AUGUST, 1944

C.C. VanDyke is the new coach of Reinbeck High School Athletics.

Virgil Paige announces the Dike Sale Barn will open Sept. 1 for the fall & winter season.

Mr. & Mrs. Verner Sloth are parents of a daughter born August 20.

Word has been received that Corp. Raymond Johannsen, 25, has been seriously wounded in action in France on July 30.

Albert Thompson, Reinbeck, has been promoted to Staff Sergeant.
