Reinbeck Courier

The Fourth of July kicked off in Reinbeck this year with a 5K Run, 2 Mile Walk and Kid's Fun Run fundraiser. An event coordinated by the Gladbrook-Reinbeck chapter of Dollars for Scholars. Local businesses partnered with the group to help cover the race costs, allowing profits to go towards scholarships for graduating G-R high school seniors.

Gold level sponsors include: Covenant Clinic, Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Lincoln Savings Bank, Lon's Plumbing and Heating.

Silver level sponsors include: Konken Electric and Reinbeck Municipal Utilities.

Bronze level sponsors include: Heartland Co-op, Parkview Manor, Pioneer Hi-Bred, Rickert Law Office, P.C. and Trunck's Country Food.

Keith and JoAnn Sash, Sash Auction, donated the use of a portable PA system.

The 2 mile walk challenge is not a race. The participant who guesses closest to their actual time wins. This year's first place 2 mile challenge winner is Riley Earp, Ankeny. His actual time was only 7 seconds off of his estimated time. Second place went to Kress Boheman and third place to Becky Billerbeck.

Children participating in the free Kid's Fun Run were able to select a new Hot Wheels car and received a healthy snack once they crossed the finish line. The Hot Wheels were generously donated by Steve Tscherter.

This year's 5K overall female winner was Taylor Petersen (Gladbrook) and the overall male winner was Mike Brennan (Minneapolis, Minnesota). Taylor finished the 3.1 mile course 3rd overall in 18:29 and Mike finished first overall in 17:40. Jeff Short (Oak Park, Ill.) finished 2nd overall with a time of 18:19.
