Bridge-to-Bridge bicycle ride

August 17, 2014
Reinbeck Courier

On Saturday, August 16th, the 2nd Annual Bridge-to-Bridge Bicycle Ride will take place. The ride features various starting points making the ride a 29 mile one way ride [from Gateway Park in Cedar Falls (8:30 AM start) to McFarland Bridge] down to just 3 miles [if one starts at the LaPorte City Gazebo]. The ride will include refreshments and snacks at the starting points: Gateway Park; Tuffy Smith Shelter Exchange Park (9:15 AM); Evansdale Trail Bridge (10:30 AM) and Gilbertville Depot at 11:00 AM.

To participate in the ride one must sign a waiver and be stamped.

The entire route will be marked with signage, but the ride down will be led by a Bridge-to-Bridge Guide. Riders need to wear a helmet.

St. Mark's Church in Evansdale (at ride's mile 12) will be serving a hot breakfast from 9 to 11 AM with free will offerings going to the CV Food Bank.

After the ride gets to McFarland Bridge we will retreat to LaPorte City and the P&B Brew Pub on Main for a refresher with a drawing for prizes (e.g. a CVC Jersey, Scheels Gift Certificate) from @1 to 1:30 PM.

The return ride is at one's own leisure, but a stop at the Gilbertville Depot will help in continuing the fun as the Gilbertville Depot is celebrating its 102nd Birthday on this same Saturday. Besides being a starting point on the ride, the Depot will, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM provide ice cream, popcorn, cupcakes, watermelon/grapes and the MUSIC of Uncle Chuck and His Imaginary Band.
