A tree dedication ceremony was held in honor of Donald Palmer at Oakleaf Country Club on July 17. Mr. Palmer was one of 10 young men in 1952 to start the layout for a 9 hole golf course.

Tim Bicket and Melissa Draper will be married Nov. 4 at the UCC Church.

Amanda Clubine, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Clubine, Hudson, won the first runner-up in the National American Miss Pageant 4th of July week-end in Des Moines.

Mr. & Mrs. Jeremy Vaverka, Lincoln, are parents of a daughter born June 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Jason Barfels are parents of a daughter born July 21.

Mr. & Mrs. Matt Cooper are parents of a daughter born June 26.

Bette J. Cooper, 65, Reinbeck, died July 24 at Allen Hospital.

Marie DeeWolf (Lapp) Willer, 86, died Feb. 19 at Westbrook Acres in Glad- brook.

Ella Tjepkes, 84, Parkersburg died July 25 at the Grundy Care Center.

JULY 28, 1994

Reinbeck Fire Department was called to the home of Mel Junge. Fire destroyed a car, a small trailer, the garage & breezeway, all of Mel's tools, damaged the Junge family van and smoke damage to the house.

Voorhies Days celebration will be held July 29-30.

Grace Owen celebrated her 80th birthday with an open house.

Reinbeck Little Leaguers captured the Tri-County championship.

Lucille Snow celebrated her 82nd birthday.

Mr. & Mrs. Tim Caples are parents of a son born July 25.

AUGUST 2, 1984

Sweet Corn Day is set for August 25.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles Felton, Bellwood, Neb., are parents of a son born July 27.

Doris Engle, 65, formerly of Reinbeck, died in Austin, Minn. on July 26.

Michelle Hilt & Jamie Roster were married July 21.

Mr. & Mrs. Roger DeWolf celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 29 with a family dinner.

Cynthia Tripp & Daryl Dreeseman were married April 28 at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.

Voorhies will have its first annual Voorhies Days on Aug. 4.

AUGUST 8, 1974

Tom Emmett purchased and moved the first frame home constructed in Grundy Co. It was the old stage coach inn northeast of Reinbeck.

Mary Buhman, 30, died August 2 of cancer.

Nancy Anderson & Ernie Jensen were married August 3.

Emil Tessau, 76, died July 31.

Mr. & Mrs. Daryl Dunham are parents of a son born July 31.

Cal Swanson & Stan Stover enter cars in the Iowa State Fair.

Vern Noltensmeier, 45, died of a heart attack on August 3.

James Fogt has been commissioned 2nd Lt. and awarded his silver wings.

Helga Staker's new fabric shop is open for business.

Phil Roberts makes the State College of Iowa's football team in Cedar Falls, coached by Stan Sheriff.

Carl Schick is having a Gala Open House at his Sinclair Station on August 8.

JoAnn Hoeppner, Dinsdale, became the bride of Dieter Nickel of Waterloo on August 1.

Jean Davis, Radcliffe, became the bride of Douglas Benham on July 31.

Lois Lovell of Edgewood & James Hamer were married August 1.

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Burrell of Waterloo are parents of a son born August 1.

60 YEARS AGO

AUGUST, 1954

Reinbeck Town Council adopted a new ordinance making present "stop signs" legal and penalties for not stopping. A fine can be from $1.00 to $100 according to the number of times you don't stop.

Natural gas probable in Reinbeck by mid-October as surveyors have laid out routes of pipelines in the town.

Ernest Storey, Morrison, hooked a 9 lb. carp from Black Hawk Creek while George Hildebrand caught a 5 lb. catfish.

Morrison Coop has completed building a new 24x178 feed house.

Reinbeck barbers will raise their price to $1.25. It will remain a $1.00 during the week.

70 YEARS AGO

AUGUST, 1944

Reinbeck School starts Monday, Sept. 4.

Pvt. Claire Schlicht writes that he was wounded in action in the French invasion.

Everett Thorsen has been appointed manager of the Iowa Liquor Store in Grundy Center.

Reinbeck asphalt streets received re-coating at the hands of Henry Willert, Juluis Bern & Henry Brandt.
