There is still time to consider, and prepare for, entering the 2014 Open Class (non-livestock) of the Grundy County Fair to be held July 22 thru July 27. The Open Class (non-livestock) was organized nearly 30 years ago by Jennie Bakker, a long time 4-H leader, to provide 4-H & FFA alumni the opportunity to exhibit at the fair. All Grundy County residents are eligible to participate regardless of age, with one exception - 4H & FFA members may not enter same exhibit in Open & 4-H/FFA classes.
There are eight major classes: fruit and vegetable; flowers and flower arrangements; foods; textiles and clothing; fine arts; photography; woodworking; and the Go Green Community Challenge. The Go Green class is open to surrounding towns of Grundy Center. For information on specific classes and the exhibiting requirements for the open class, go to www.grundycountyfair.com. Open class information starts on page 88.
The entry forms and tags you will need are available at the Grundy County Extension Office at 703 F Avenue, Suite 1, Grundy Center, Iowa. The office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
