On Tuesday, May 27, we celebrated the last day of story time for the school year with an outdoor party. Michele Knaack coordinated games and activities. Erica Thesing designed some sidewalk chalk pictures, and the kids had a great time. At the request of some of the mothers, we are going to resume story time earlier than usual this year plans are to begin in mid or late July after the summer reading program is over. If you would like to help with story time, please contact the library. We appreciate all the people who have helped this year: Michele Knaack, Erica Thesing, Reinbeck Firefighters, Lisa Roose, Ann Rae Billerbeck, Mardel Brockett, Ellen Schweppe, Cherie Eckhoff, Val Ehlers, Terry Plocher, Kristy Giesking, Cal Turner, Beth Johans, Mary Nielsen, Sheryl Campbell and Kathy Holst. I hope I have not left anyone out of the list.
Our summer reading program for kids who were in the 6th grade and under is now underway. Sign up at the library, and we will give you a time sheet to keep track of your reading. You may also pick out an item from our incentives box. By reading materials checked out from the library, you have a chance to earn coupons from Truncks for free movie rentals, ice cream and fresh fruit treats. You may also receive a book of your choice at the end of the program, and have a chance at winning various prizes. Children not old enough to read on their own may also take part by being read to. There will be five events this year, all at the Memorial Building. The first program is a magic show by Rick Eugene. It will be held on Friday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m.
New books this week include: The Lincoln Myth by Steve Berry, Wild Storm by Richard Castle, The Skin Collector by Jeffery Deaver, The One & Only by Emily Giffin, The Silence of the Library by Miranda James, Backlands by Michael McGarrity and The Kraken Project by Douglas Preston.
