Colonel Tim Rickert was born in Grundy Center and graduated from Reinbeck High School in Reinbeck. He enlisted in the United States Army and served four years. After his enlistment, Rickert joined the ROTC program at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in May 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and a commission as Second Lieutenant. He went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from Drake University and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.
Rickert served as a Team Chief, Embedded Tactical trainer with the Afghan National Army in Khowst, Afghanistan from May 2006 to June 2007. He has earned numerous awards and citations including the Bronze Star. Rickert currently Commands the 734th Regional Support Group, and serves as the Director of Logistics for the Iowa Army National Guard.
Rickert is the son of Gary and Margaret Rickert from Reinbeck. He and his wife Coop live in Johnston, Iowa; they have four children and two grandchildren.
