Grundy County The Grundy County Food Pantry is in need of donations, and is asking for your help.
Although the need is often hidden and hard to see in our small county, there are many in our communities who are at risk of going hungry. In addition, hunger doesn't target just one group. Those facing hunger include senior citizens, working families, single-parent families, the disabled, children etc.
In just one example of the need, usage of the Grundy County Food Pantry increased dramatically in the past year, increasing by 30% from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, the Grundy County Food Pantry provided food to 832 individuals; 43% of which were children. In addition, nearly half of those assisted at Northeast Iowa pantries reported having to choose between heating and eating.
The Grundy County Food Pantry, administered by Operation Threshold, is once again participating in The Feinstein Foundation Challenge. All monetary and food donations made to the food pantry from March 1st through April 30th will be eligible for match dollars from the Foundation.
This is where your help is invaluable. The more donations individuals or groups give to the pantry during this timeframe, the more matching funds the Feinstein Foundation will supply.
In 2013, 55 donors were moved to give over $3,800 worth of food and monetary donations to the pantry. Operation Threshold is hopeful "The Challenge" will inspire similar generosity on the part of donors in 2014
Organizations and individuals who want to support the Grundy County Food Pantry as part of the challenge are asked to write "Feinstein Foundation" somewhere on their donations. For questions, contact Grundy County Coordinator Christine Tobias at 319-824-3460.
