Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 6 12, and Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) is taking the opportunity to celebrate and thank its more than 100 volunteers with a group celebration and lunch. Volunteers play a tremendous role in the operation of GCMH. They staff the Welcome Desks and the East J Caf, help with Long Term Care activities, assist in the Therapy department, fill hospital vending machines, and make popcorn as a weekly treat for residents and staff. The Hospital Board of Commissioners, GCMH Foundation Board, and several hospital committees are also composed of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers come from all over the hospital's four-county service area, representing Conrad, Dike, Eldora, Gladbrook, Grundy Center, Holland, Lincoln, Parkersburg, Reinbeck, Steamboat Rock and Wellsburg.
"From serving as cashier in the East J Caf to helping a guest who needs wheelchair assistance, from calling a game of BINGO for residents to supporting fundraising events, our hospital depends on volunteers. Each of our 100 volunteers gives generously of their time and talent to make the hospital and Long Term Care a better place," says Erin Schildroth, Community Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator.
The hospital is currently in need of more volunteers in all areas. If you are interested in joining the Grundy County Memorial Hospital as a volunteer, please contact Erin Schildroth at (319) 824-4147.
GCMH volunteers enjoy learning about their daily responsibilities in the Hospital’s East J Café.
