Lights of Broadway gala raises funds for GCMH

March 2, 2014
Reinbeck Courier

Area residents are planning family weekends, a hot air balloon ride, trips to Hawkeye and Cyclone sporting events, and an outing to see a Broadway musical all with auction packages and prizes from the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation gala & auction. The February 8th event attracted 170 guests and raised more than $29,000 to support new equipment and technology at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

The gala & auction featured live Broadway show tunes performed by Revs. Mike and Sheryl Campbell of Grundy Center, vocalists Elisabeth and Jeff Bieber of Parkersburg, as well as a Live Auction conducted by Mark Jungling, Grundy Center. The Grundy Center Dance team also performed to a Broadway musical number. Emcee and host for the evening was Gary Kroeger, a former Saturday Night Live performer.

A dessert auction and Jewelry raffle were also highlights of the party that took place at the Grundy Center Community Center. Design jewelry was awarded as raffle prizes to nine lucky ladies, each winning a necklace, or bracelet from Dean Jewelers, downtown Cedar Falls.

Volunteer committee members Kelly Dinsdale and Jan Ehrig of Reinbeck, Joyce Schmidt and Rhonda Samo of Grundy Center, and Kate Durbin and Susan Jaspers of Parkersburg planned the fund raiser with the support of hospital foundation staff.

"The success of the Gala is a wonderful demonstration of the support that community members provide to the hospital," said Keely Harken, Foundation Development Manager. "Local businesses donate items for the silent and live auction, local chefs and bakers donate desserts for the dessert auction, and our volunteer committee creates a wonderful atmosphere for our guests to enjoy."

The gala & auction helps support the hospital Foundation's 2014 Annual Campaign, which has a goal to raise $175,000 to fund needed improvements and technology in the hospital's inpatient, laboratory, specialty clinic, and surgery departments. More information on the Foundation may be found at, or by contacting Harken at 319-824-4152.
