Marjorie Marie Frey, 90, of Gladbrook, Iowa passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Gladbrook Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Visitation was held at 12:00 p.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Gladbrook Community Ambulance Fund, Westbrook Acres Care Center and the Gladbrook Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent to

Marjorie was born February 27, 1923 on a farm south of Gladbrook, Iowa, the first of five daughters born to Harry and Esther Bruene Seydel. She attended country school through 8th grade, and graduated in 1940 from Gladbrook High School. She attended Gates Business College in Waterloo, and then was married during World War II to Kenneth Frey on July 14, 1943. She traveled with him until he went overseas. She then returned home and worked at the State Bank in Gladbrook until Kenneth was discharged in 1946. They started farming in Dinsdale. In 1958, they moved to her parents farm south of Gladbrook. In 1978, they purchased the farm and lived there until 1985 when they retired in Gladbrook. They enjoyed 24 years of fishing trips to Minnesota, and enjoyed many Army reunions, and visiting with friends.

Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M. Women, American Legion Auxiliary, the Gladbrook Women's Club and played in a 500 Marathon for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth on June 6, 2003, her parents, sister Joyce, brothers-in-law Lyle Lorenz, Rude Dietrich, Robert Thede and William Knaack, and sisters-in-law Gertrude Dietrich and Laurene Knaack.

She is survived by sisters Lois Lorenz of Traer, Phyllis (Gerald) Smith of Ames, and Barbara Seydel of Rochester, Minn., sister-in-law Lucille (Robert) Thede of Reinbeck, cousins Kenneth Bruene, Roger (Barbara) Bruene of Ames and Sam (Tristan) Houston of Morgan Hills, Calif., nephews Melvin Knaach, Robert Knaack, Brian (Fazia) Smith of Miami Beach, Fla., nieces Joyce Swangel, Linda (Larry) Johnson of Roland, Lisa (Mike) Thompson of Traer, Lori (Ron) Huebner of Evansville, Ind., and great niece Catlin Thompson of Traer. Last and far from least, Marjorie's special friends Burnell and Katie Grimmius.
