REINBECK - Four players scored in double figures and a third-quarter surge sent Gladbrook-Reinbeck past South Hardin, 63-49, in Friday's NICL West Division boys' basketball opener.
Cameron Clark led the Rebels (1-0, 1-0) with 15 points, while Camden Kickbush tallied 13 points in the win. Zach Pierce had 10 points and nine rebounds, Luke Holman hit two 3-pointers on his way to 10 points, and Joe Smoldt added nine points, five boards and a team-high four assists in his varsity debut.
The two teams were tied up at 24-all at the half before Gladbrook-Reinbeck got going with a 22-14 advantage in the third. South Hardin's Sam Shindelar made a pair of 3-pointers early in the fourth quarter to keep the Tigers (0-1, 0-1) in striking distance, but the Rebels eventually pulled away.
Eric Mulder led South Hardin with 20 points and Shindelar finished with 16, making four 3-pointers. Andrew Wiechmann chipped in with five points.
