Bruce Potter, 59, died Nov. 30 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Richard Christiansen, 58, Cedar Falls, died Nov. 28 at Sartori Hospital.


Lisa Kiehne & Steven P. Swanson were married October 23.

Jane Johnson & Neal Allen are parents of a daughter born Nov. 23.

Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Boldt are parents of a son born Nov. 24.

Wallace Smith, 76, Dike, died Nov. 20.

Roger Dostal receives Citizen of the Year award.

Shawn Strohbehn accepts position with U.S. Representative Jim Nussel's office in Washington D.C.


DECEMBER 8, 1983

A Northwestern railroad fertilizer train derailed near Pioneer Road at the Farmer's Coop. Three fertilizer hopper cars flipped and four others derailed.

Ralph Smith, 103, Reinbeck's oldest citizen died Dec. 3 at Parkview Manor.

Wesley Yuska, 71, Hudson, died Nov. 30 at St. Frances Hospital.

Helen Plaehn, 61, Lincoln, died Dec. 1 at a Marshalltown Hospital.

LaVon Hulme, 70, Traer, died Dec. 5 at St. Frances Hospital.

Lisa Pettit and Curtis Graveman will be married Jan. 14, 1984.

Maxine Berry, Lincoln, was the Outstanding Citizen for 1983.

Robert Ohrt, former Reinbeck man, sustained severe head lacerations when he was assaulted by two men who were burglarizing his home in Cedar Falls. He was treated at Sartori for his injuries.



Mr. & Mrs. Dale Hookie of St. Anthony, Iowa have purchased the bakery from Kenneth Roberts and will take possession around the first of the year.

One hundred pigs were destroyed and a building and equipment were damaged northeast of Grundy Center at the Jake Bushokl farm. Loss is thought be about $10,000.

Erna Lauterbach and Leo Meewes and Ida Lauterbach and Walter Porter were married on Christmas Day, 1923. They will hold an anniversary celebration.

Workmen from Pioneer loaded 18 special Japan Line shipping containers with 50 bags each of Pioneer 3715 seed corn. The seed corn is being shipped to Yokohama, Japan.

Service of Ordination and Installation for Rodney Slessor, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Slessor, Reinbeck, will be held Sunday Dec. 16 at the United Church of Christ, as assistant pastor which will be his first call.

Horace Emmert, 65, Reinbeck, died Dec. 8 at the Grundy Co, Memorial Hospital.

Laura Sindt, 85, Reinbeck, died Dec. 8 at Schoitz Hospital.

Thomas Hookstra, 56, Wellsburg, died Dec. 6 at the Eldora Custodial Home due to a heart attack.



Willie E. Dohrn, 67, Grundy Center, died of a heart attack while driving west of Reinbeck.

Mr. & Mrs. Ed Witt observed their 59th wedding anniversary on Dec. 7.

George Rathman Estate closing out sale will be held on Dec. 17 northeast of Reinbeck.

The razing of Reinbeck's school building, built in 1908, was completed.

Reinbeck Lion's Club is sponsoring a home lighting contest.

John Moore of Moore Electric was awarded one of six first prizes in a recent Crescent Electric Supply residential lighting fixture contest.



Neighbors helped Leonard Hulme build a new barn and chicken house which were destroyed by fire.

Hoeg & Ames are drilling a new well on the Harry Albert farm, occupied by James Keith.

JoAnn Greiner and Leland Hulme will be married on Jan. 16, 1954.



Chris Dufel, 60, Reinbeck Mayor, died while making a tax report.

A.M. Reid, 82, died on Thanksgiving Day.

Reinbeck's marmalade factory is going full time with eight employees. Carol DeWolf is the chief cook.

George Conant, 67, well known real estate broker in Gladbrook, died Nov. 29.

Josephine Conradi, Dike and Clarence Bowers were married on Nov. 26.

Lieut & Mrs. Homer Wilson are parents of a daughter born Nov. 17.

Mr. & Mrs. Russell Roberts are parents of a son born Nov. 24.
