The Ethan Timothy Hungerford Action Network (ETHAN) has awarded its annual Ethan Hungerford Memorial scholarships to the following area High School graduates. All of these students will be attending Marshalltown Community College in the Fall of 2013. Each student received a $500 scholarship.
Allysen White graduated from Gladbrook-Reinbeck High school and will be majoring in Tool and Die.
These scholarships were presented in memory of Ethan Hungerford who passed away in December 2004, at age 7, after undergoing a Bone Marrow transplant to treat a Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID). Ethan was a first-grader at Laurel elementary in The East Marshall School system at the time.
ETHAN has an annual Baseball Tournament, 5k Run/Walk, and Golf Tournament, as well as, sponsorships, grants, and donations to raise money for these scholarships, as well as other projects.
Since ETHAN was founded, it has given over $12,000 in scholarships, as well as over $8000 in donations to community/school projects.
The 2013 Ethan's Tractor Run/Walk 5k will be, Saturday, August 23 at the Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association Show at 7:30 a.m. The Ethan Hungerford Memorial Golf tournament will be held September 7, 2013, at The Lincoln Valley Golf Course.
