At 1:45 AM, June 3rd, 42 GR 7th and 8th grades students, parents and staff left for Washington DC to see and do as much as they could fit in. The photo shows their first stop of the trip that was to see the White House. They were on the go from early in the morning until late each evening. They returned back to Gladbrook very late in the evening on June 5th. Some of the sites they visited were Iwo Jima, WW II Memorial, The National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, FDR Memorial, Museum of Natural History, Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Museum of American History, to name a few. We also toured the Capitol and met with Senator Grassley. Each evening the kids enjoyed about 90 minutes of down time in the pool or in their rooms.
This trip is an optional student trip that is offered to GR students on an every-other-year basis. Students have been doing fundraising for the past two years to earn money for their trip. One student worked many events and earned most of the cost of the trip while others chose to not work fundraising and paid for their trip on their own. Fundraising has already begun for the 2015 trip.
